Pet Therapy

Pet Therapy is a program where caring individuals share their special animals in order to bring happiness and cheer to people who need something to hold and love. Such a person is Linda Sikes, a volunteer at Abilene Regional, who conducts special therapy with her dogs, Penny and Honey.

Regular visits give hospital patients something to look forward to and such visits often trigger memories of animals they had owned. Visiting with animals can help people feel less depressed and can provide a welcome change from one's routine. People often become more active and responsive both during and after visiting with animals. Additionally, an animal visit can offer entertainment or a welcome distraction from pain and infirmity.

So, don't be surprised if you run into some four-legged friends while walking down the halls of our hospital, they are there to cheer our patients and brighten their day!

If you would like more information regarding pet therapy or joining the volunteers at Abilene Regional Medical Center please call the Volunteer office at 428-4953.
