The Volunteer Organization at Abilene Regional is a very important part of our hospital. Volunteers of various ages give freely of their time, energy and talents in serving and supporting the hospital, its patients and families, visitors, medical staff and the general public.
The office of the volunteer services coordinator is located at 6150 Regional Plaza located, across from the Women's Center. Contact the coordinator at 325-428-4953.
Volunteers help throughout the hospital with various duties. Their duties may range from greeting, directing and assisting visitors at the Lobby desks at the main entrance, outpatient department and Women’s Center, escorting visitors to various locations, filing, typing, answering the telephone, running errands, assisting with special projects, responding to family queries and needs in waiting rooms, locating a chaplain when necessary and much more.
Some volunteers work in the Gift Shop running the cash register and helping organize and restock the merchandise. Click here for more information.
PetMedics is our Pet Therapy Program. Our program continues to expand with our four-legged volunteers!
Pet Therapy is a program where caring individuals share their special animals in order to bring happiness and cheer to people who need something to hold and love.
Regular visits give hospital patients something to look forward to and such visits often trigger memories of animals they had owned. Visiting with animals can help people feel less depressed and can provide a welcome change from one's routine. People often become more active and responsive both during and after visiting with animals. Additionally, an animal visit can offer entertainment or a welcome distraction from pain and infirmity.
So, don't be surprised if you run into some four-legged friends while walking down the halls of our hospital, they are there to cheer our patients and brighten their day!
If you would like more information regarding pet therapy or joining the volunteers at Abilene Regional Medical Center please call the Volunteer office at 428-4953.
